Compassionate Inquiry is a trauma-based psychotherapeutic method developed by Dr. Gabor Matè that reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world. His view is that trauma is at the root of all human dysfunction, addiction, affliction, disease, confusion, and separation from the self. The goal of a Compassionate Inquiry (CI) session is to help the client re-connect with their authentic self. The process is an uncovering through inquiry and curiosity of what may be arising in the present moment. In this process, the story is not more important than getting to the truth because it is the truth that will liberate the client. It may bring up some painful emotions, and my role is to help guide the client through the experience in the present moment through a mind-body connection within a safe container. Find out more here. CI sessions last about an hour and can be done on Zoom or in person.
Psychotherapy & Integration
55 min / $150-$250
Psychotherapy involves developing a therapeutic relationship, communicating and creating a dialogue, and working to overcome problematic thoughts or behaviors. It can be long or short term depending on the needs of the client. Traditionally it involves looking back through the client's history to get a sense of where certain patterns may have started. Once these patterns are identified, it becomes easier to release them and create new/healthier patterns.
I find psychotherapy effective for a range of problems such as depression, anxiety, stress, loss, life transitions, and low self-esteem. I take an eclectic approach to best help my client's needs, including spiritual psychology. I believe that my clients do not have to get stuck in their story, but that they can re-write their story once they understand what their root beliefs and patterns have been. It's never too late to change!
There is a growing body of research that is pointing to the effectiveness of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAP). Schenberg suggests that the positive, cathartic effects of PAP could potentially lead to lasting mental health outcomes much like trauma, childhood adversities, poverty, abuse and deprivation can lead to sustained negative mental health outcomes. As more and more people explore this modality, there is a greater need for integration work. Integration is the most important aspect of PAP because that is where the client brings in the lessons and understandings of the experience and applies it to their daily life. Integration speaks to the process of ‘making whole’; of bringing together parts that were disparate or untouched. It is through this therapeutic work that the client can merge their goals with their experience and make meaning while utilizing the window of neuroplasicity in order to make more permanent change.
